Robert "Bob" Ooten was elected to the Board of Directors of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District in November 2006 and has served in all five Board positions during his tenure. Director Ooten has 40 years of experience in planning, design, and construction of sewers and wastewater systems, and for 25 years he worked for the Orange County Sanitation District, being promoted to their Director of Operations and Maintenance. In 1997, he was responsible for conducting a personnel reorganization that saved taxpayers over $5 million each year. Additionally, he served as President of the 7000-member sanitary/wastewater California Water Environment Association. Director Ooten is a registered professional engineer and provides insight and important contributions to the proper operation of the Costa Mesa Sanitary District sewer system.

Upon retirement, Mr. Ooten received leadership recognition from the city, county, state, and the Governor. Mr. Ooten, a Costa Mesa resident since 1984, actively volunteers in the Senior Center, Friends of the Library Book Store, Friends of Fairview Park, and the Lions Club. Director Ooten is also a member of the Santa Ana River Basin Section, the California Water Environment Association, the Water Environment Association, and is a Certified Grade V Wastewater Treatment Operator.
