COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT RECEIVES AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN POPULAR ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORTING FOR THE 6TH STRAIGHT YEAR

(Costa Mesa – CA) The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has once again recognized the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) with the Association’s award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) for the sixth consecutive year.

The PAFR award represents a significant achievement by CMSD. In order to be eligible for the PAFR award, government agencies must also submit their comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) to the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellent in Financial Reporting Program and receive the Certificate for the current fiscal year.

Earlier this year, the GFOA awarded the CAFR Certificate to CMSD. It was the tenth straight year CMSD received this prestigious financial award. While the CAFR is typically a lengthy document that compiles an agency’s detailed financial statements, the PAFR is a condensed version of the CAFR that summarizes an agency’s financial information in a way that is easily understandable for anyone who may not have a background in public finance.

“The Costa Mesa Sanitary District is committed to being open and transparent,” said Board President Bob Ooten. “While very few special districts prepare PAFR’s for their constituents, we believe it’s important for the public to easily identify how their local government agency is spending their money. We believe the PAFR demonstrates CMSD’s ongoing commitment to transparency.”

The CAFR and PAFR are available for review on CMSD’s website.
